Abstract
Reading is one of the crucial aspects in education field. It is also one of the English skills that must be mastered by English learners. By reading enhance the students' knowledge and learning experiences of students. Additionally all subjects in school have the book, so to be able to follow the lessons well students should read, became all the information required in the written form. To be able to read the students need to be tramed and use appropriate methods to make it easier and understand the read. There are many methods or strategy that can be used in reading comprehension. Unfortunately this has not been used optimally, therefore the students do not understand the readings that were read. The researcher found this case at the eleventh gradem of SMA NI Seputih Agung. The students still do not understand the contents of the readings were read, they can't predict the meaning of unknown words, and they are difficult in comprehending the text. In this undergraduated thesis the researcher applies the Contestual Clues Strategy. Contextual Claca Strategy could Increase the students' thinking, students more easily accomplish the task and to understand the material provided casier
The objective of this study is to investigate whether the Contextual Clues Strategy could increase students reading comprehension at the 1 eleventh graders of SMA NI Seputih Agung In the pre-survey, which is conducted by researchers only 9 students from 31 students of eleventh grades of SMA NI Seputih Agung get soore more than the Completeness Standard (KKM) that is 70. In this case the researcher conducts classroom action research (CAR) which is done in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The subjects of this research are 31 students of eleven grades SMAN 1 Seputih Agung. In collecting data the researcher uses test, observation, documentation and field notes. The result of the test shows that there is an increasing from pre test and post test. In the first cycle of the average score of the pre-test is 67.37 increased to 77.95 in the post test. In the first cycle of the target has not been achieved because the students who get score more than 70 is less than 85%. In the second cycle, there is an increasing, from the results of pre test which Increase from 62.5 to 85.38 in this cycle the learning targets has been achieved is 100% of students scored above 70. Beside, the students become more active in the class and enjoy the learning process
