Abstract

Writing has been assumed as one of the very important skills in English. Writing skill is considered as the most difficult skill for students especially in writing descriptive paragraph. The students still make errors in their writing Analyzing grammatical errors is very important to learn the kinds, sources, and the causes of the students' errors in writing so that the students' difficulties in teaching learning process could identified. The main goal of this study is to describe the types and frequencies of grammatical errors made by students in their writing descriptive paragraph.

A qualitative research was used in this research. Toe subject of this research was 15 students of the SMP ISLAM YPI 2 METRO. The data were collected through observation and documentation. The analysis technique proposed by Miles and Hubernan model was used to analysis the data.

The result of this study shows that the most of students at the eight grade of SMP ISLAM YPI 2 METRO committed into types of grammatical errors in their writing descriptive paragraph. The errors are tensis and vocabulary. The total errors made by students were 173 errors. It consist of 101 errors in tensis or 59%,72 errors in vocabularies or 41%. The students made the most errors in tenses. Based on this findings, the writer suggest that the teacher mustgive more about tenses and should be focused on teaching Structure and Grammar.
