Abstract

Problems of reading are important factor that affects a reading learning process. If we know the problem faced in learning reading, we can increase our reading performance become higher. Narrative text is called non fiction; story or event is true or actually occurred.

A qualitative research design was used to describe the students' problems in their reading narrative text performance and to know the problems of students' in reading narrative text. On the basis of an analysis, the writer needs some instruments such as observation, documentation, and depth interview which were conducted to valide the data. Inductive logic furthermore used for gathering, grouping, selecting, and interpreting the data. This research conducted at the first year (x) that considers of 40 students to pre survey. And in depth interview, the writer confined the research by choosing 5 participants only for focus research. In conducting the research, the writer used snowball sampling as the participants.

The research result shows that in the students faced problem in learning reading narrative text are: they are feeling dislike for learning reading narrative text, they have low vocabulary mastery, and they have low grammatical knowledge. It can be assumed that the students have intrinsic problems in learning reading on narrative text.
