Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate how students‘ perception of using digital conference application as an English online learning media at IAIN Metro. This research is a qualitative research. The methods used in collecting data were questionnaire, interview and documentation. The data analysis technique was the data collection, data reduction, data display and conclusing drawing and verification. The subjects of this study were 15 Students of English Education Department. The results of this research are: 1) the role of conference application as an English online learning media are: firstly to facilitate the learning process carried out during learning so that learning becomes easier. Secondly as a media that helps communicate between lecturer and students during the learning process, and thirdly as a media that supports the learning process. 2) problems faced by students, that are: digital conference application requires a lot of quota and a stable internet network, and it is necessary to adapt to this application to understand how it operates and the features. Therefore 3) found the advantages of digital conference as an English online learning media, they are: the first is to make it easier to interact directly with lecturers and make it easier for students in the online learning process such as discussion. Second, many participants can join the meeting. Third, conferencing application is easy to operate. Fourth, online learning becomes more effective and efficient, and the last is the features are very interesting and easy to operate. Moreover, the disadvantages of conference application as an English online learning media are: a) conference application requires a lot of quota and a stable network, b) although face-to-face indirectly, but there are still many students who don‘t understand what is conveyed by the lecturer, c) not all the students can enjoy this application in the learning process, and d) lack of personal interaction.
